Influence of Typhoons on Chemical Makeup of Rainwater in Zhanjiang, China

Typhoons are extreme weather events with substantial effects on ambient air. However, whether typhoons of different intensities have the same chemical composition rainwater is unclear. Therefore, 4 years sampling and an analysis ionic (Cl–, Ca2+, Na+, SO42–, Mg2+, F–, K+) were conducted in Zhanjiang, a city southern tip mainland China. The varied seasonally, being high dry seasons whereas low wet seasons; ion levels controlled by rainfall dilution rather than monsoon transition. Source determination demonstrated that marine influences similar, further indicating limited impact climate species’ seasonal patterns. heavy rain strong wind (> 47.4 m s–1) brought super typhoon led to increase species carried from continental sources into air, such then captured precipitation. weak winds (10.71–12.84 failed blow ions but still occurred was dependent upon amount. Our results suggest can concentrations rainwater, reduce concentrations. provide new insight relationship between air quality typhoons.
